Careers Post-16 Options
Legally, students can leave school on the last Friday in June if they’ll be 16 by the end of the summer holidays. However, by September, they will need to be in official education or training.
These are the 3 Post-16 options:
- Stay in full-time education, e.g. at a Sixth Form, College or Sixth Form College doing A Levels, T Levels or other academic qualifications,
- Start an apprenticeship
- Work or volunteer for 20 hours or more a week while in part-time education or training.
In Year 10 and Year 11 we ensure all students are informed about the options available to them after GCSEs. Students have taster days in our Sixth Form, we invite local colleges to our Careers Assemblies to share information on Vocational Pathways and we also work with employers and apprenticeship providers as we recognise the value of the apprenticeship pathway. All Year 11 students also have a one-to-one personal guidance careers interview with our local partner, Adviza.

Sixth Form
At Brakenhale Sixth Form students have access to excellent teaching, fantastic student support, and a wealth of experiences and opportunities.

A group of colleges comprising two Sixth Form Colleges at Strode’s and Windsor, and specialist technical, vocational and land-based training at Langley and BCA (Berkshire College of Agriculture.)
