GCE Results: Brakenhale School Celebrates Excellent A-Level Success as Average Grades Rise and Record Numbers Secure Top University Places

Students, staff, and families at Brakenhale School are in high spirits as they celebrate an outstanding set of A-level results, with the school's average grade rising significantly; the percentage of A*-B grades almost doubling to 43%; and students securing places at leading universities, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

In a tremendous year for academic performance, 56% of students going to university have secured places at top-tier UK institutions (ranked in the top third nationally), demonstrating the incredible ambition, talent, and work ethic of this cohort.

Students are set to progress to some of the country’s most prestigious higher education institutions to study a wide variety of competitive and groundbreaking courses. Highlights among this year’s top achievers include:

Hashem, who will be studying Construction Management at UCL.
Alex, who is heading to the University of Surrey to study Physics with Nuclear Astrophysics.
Natalia, who has secured a place at King’s College London to read Biomedical Science.
Mindy, who will be taking up a place at the University of Bristol to study Chemical Physics.
Ciara, who is off to Cardiff University to study Law with Politics and International Relations.
Alfie, who is heading to Newcastle University to study Mathematics.
Shreya, who will be studying Applied Psychology at the University of Reading.
Amber, who is going to Royal Holloway, University of London to study Computer Science.
Alisha, who has secured a place at the University of Birmingham to study Sports Science.
Beyond those entering higher education, students across the year group are embarking on high-quality apprenticeships and exciting workforce placements.

GCSE Results: Brakenhale School Celebrates Record-Breaking GCSE Results

Hallways were filled with tears of joy, huge smiles, and collective celebration this morning as Year 11 students at Brakenhale School collected their GCSE results, officially marking the highest academic performance in the school’s history.

This year’s cohort has set a new benchmark for excellence, comfortably outpacing both Bracknell Forest and national averages across every key performance metric. The impressive figures showcase not only top-end academic achievement, but remarkable progress for students across all subjects.

Overall, the school recorded a strong Attainment 8 score of 47, placing Brakenhale ahead of both local authority and national figures. An impressive 49% of all students secured a Grade 5 or above in both English and Mathematics, representing a strong pass in the core subjects that exceeds comparative local and national benchmark data. Furthermore, 68% of the year group achieved a Grade 4 or higher in both core subjects, ensuring a solid foundation for their next steps in further education.

Academic rigour was evident across all faculties, with a remarkable 22% of all entries awarded at Grade 7, 8, or 9 - the equivalent of the old A* and A grades.

Among the standout individual success stories was Yat Hei, who swept an incredible eight Grade 9s in Biology, Business, Chemistry, Chinese, Geography, Maths, Physics, and Religious Studies, alongside a Grade 8 and a Grade 7 in English.

Similarly exceptional performances came from Ian, who earned seven Grade 9s and two Grade 7s, and Ewan, who locked in six Grade 9s and three Grade 8s. Karl and Kakun also delivered phenomenal runs, each bringing home four Grade 9s alongside a host of 8s and 7s.

Top-tier subject attainment was demonstrated right across the curriculum:

• Ben, Daniel, and Lewis all swept up top Grade 9s across STEM subjects including Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. Lewis confirmed his place at Brakenhale Sixth Form to continue his advanced studies.
• Natalie demonstrated extraordinary creative and humanities strength, scoring Grade 9s in Art, History, and Russian.
• Esosa showcased versatility across the performing arts and sciences, securing Grade 9s in Photography and Dance to go along with five Grade 8s.
• Summer achieved Grade 9s in Chemistry and Religious Studies, backed up by two Grade 8s and five Grade 7s.

Commenting on the results, Headteacher Camilla Douglas expressed immense pride in the achievements of the entire school community:

It is a true privilege to celebrate these record-breaking achievements today. The grit and determination our Year 11s have shown will serve them well in whatever they choose to do next, and we are thoroughly looking forward to welcoming so many of them back to Brakenhale Sixth Form in September to start their A-Level journey."

With enrolment for post-16 study now underway, the school expects a record intake for its Sixth Form programme following today’s remarkable outcome.

This year, the percentage of students achieving A–A* grades has doubled and value-added scores have increased by 0.46, reflecting the exceptional progress and attainment of our students. Whether they are going on to university, embarking on apprenticeships, starting work, travelling, taking a gap year, or exploring something completely different, we congratulate every one of them on their achievements and wish them success in the exciting journeys ahead.
