GCSE PE Rock Climbing

As part of their GCSE PE course, ten students completed a six-week rock climbing programme at Oakwood Climbing Centre. Rock climbing is one of the off-site activities that can be assessed towards their GCSE PE practical grade.

Throughout the course, students learned a range of skills, including tying in, bouldering, climbing, belaying and abseiling, while developing their confidence, resilience and teamwork. They thoroughly enjoyed learning a new sport and successfully completed a practical assessment that will contribute towards their overall GCSE PE grade.

PE Department Summer Term Round-Up

The PE Department has enjoyed another fantastic and action-packed summer term. Although the recent heatwave unfortunately led to the cancellation of several events, including the GLT Athletics Championships, Year 7 District Athletics and a number of athletics fixtures, our students have still had plenty of opportunities to participate, compete and represent Brakenhale with pride.

GLT Rounders Tournament

On Friday 12th June, our Year 7, 8 and 9 girls travelled to Gloucester to compete in the GLT Rounders Tournament. All three teams produced some excellent performances, demonstrating outstanding teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. The girls represented Brakenhale brilliantly and should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

Sports Leadership

Our Sports Leaders have continued to make a significant impact this term. Year 9 students experienced their first leadership opportunities, while our Year 10 Sports Leaders returned after completing their GCSE examinations to support a number of events.

• GLT Trust Primary Sports Events
• Year 5/6 Outdoor Athletics Championships at Palmer Park

Sports Leadership is a key part of the PE curriculum at Brakenhale, and we are incredibly proud of the programme we have developed. The primary schools we have supported have been full of praise for our students, commenting on their maturity, professionalism, enthusiasm and compassion when working with younger pupils.

We are excited to continue developing our current Year 9 Sports Leaders as they move into Year 10, with an even bigger programme of events already planned for next academic year.
